Male Dog Marking Behavior Problems

Male dog marking behavior problems can be very irritating for owners. You might see your dog lifting its leg near every object in the house to mark, or your dog might be dragging you to every tree to mark. To stop this dog behavior problem, you have to teach him that you are the boss.

Dogs that are unneutered are always ready to mark something. This is a completely natural behavior and a way to demonstrate their dominance and territory.

Likely, you will see these dogs repeatedly going to the same locations in the house or yard to freshen up their markings.

The main problem is that these dogs then to think that they run the house and that they are the pack leader and not you.

But in order to get your status back as pack leader you have to teach your dog it is unacceptable to be marking inside the house, and that when on walks you decide what will be marked or not.

The quickest way to stop male dog marking behavior is to have your dog neutered. But you should also incorporate behavior modification into this as well.

When training your dog not to mark, make sure you do it in the house, so the dog realizes that it is your space, not his, and that marking is not acceptable.

If you can not observe your dog in the house all the time, think about using a crate to control him movements. Male dog marking behavior is easier to stop when dogs are young, but older dogs can be taught new habits as well.
